Frequently asked questions

I do not have a site; what to do?

We have asked Antje Baumann to develop a pack aimed at people with limited knowledge about PC's, Internet and websites. With the pack all technical related work is done by Antje. She also can take care of the traduction of your text (french - german - english). You only need to supply her with text and photos by e-mail or post. Questions and more information:

Where is the page with my holiday home (1)?

There are three possible reasons why you cannot find the page with your holiday home. After entering or changing some data you did not click on the link to update the list with holiday homes. To correct that go to the map of France, click on your departement and click at the end of the resulting list on the link to update that page.

Where is the page with my holiday home (2)?

There are three possible reasons why you cannot find the page with your holiday home. You entered the wrong postal code. Beacuase of that your holiday home appears on the list of another departement. Check this by accessing the page with your data which shows you the postal code. To correct this error delete your registration and add a new one with the correct postal code.

Where is the page with my holiday home (3)?

There are three possible reasons why you cannot find the page with your holiday home. You did register a hotel, a caravan, a boat or some other data which were not appropriate. In that case your registration was deleted or blocked by us without any notice.

Where is the link to my site (1)?

There are two possible reasons why the link to your site does not appear on the page of your holiday home. After entering or changing some data you did not click on the link to update the page with your holiday home. To correct that go to your page and click at the bottom of that page on the link to update that page.

Where is the link to my site (2)?

There are two possible reasons why the link to your site does not appear on the page of your holiday home. The link to our site must appear on the page you entered. So if you put the link on http://www.mysite.co.uk/links.htm you must enter that page. If you entered http://www.mysite.co.uk your link will not appear because on that page the link to our site cannot be found.

How can I put a link to your site?

Add a link with the text 'www.rent-a-holiday-home-in-france.info' and the url 'www.rent-a-holiday-home-in-france.info'. The technical way to accomplish this depends on the system/software you are using.

Can you upload my pictures?

No we cannot upload your pictures. We do not have acces to your site. Only you or your webmaster can upload pictures.

How can I upload my pictures?

That depends on your provider and your configuration. We cannot help you with this question.

Can you download my pictures?

No we cannot download your pictures; our system is not designed to stock your pictures.

Can I send you my pictures?

No you cannot send us your pictures; our system is not designed to stock your pictures.

I do not have a small (<10 K) picture!

In that case just leave the field for the small picture blank.

Can you reduce my picture?

No we cannot reduce your picture.

I have no site but I want pictures!

In that case upload one or more pictures to your peronal webspace with your provider. If that is to complicated, use a service like www.zenzebra.com. You just send them your photos per e-mail and they will within a few minutes stock and publish them for free.

Can you call me?

No we cannot call you by phone. Neither can you call us.

Can you translate my text?

No we cannot translate your text; we are not translators.

How can I change the postal code?

You cannot change the postal code. If you entered a wrong postal code you have to delete your existing registration and enter a new one.

How can I change my e-mail address?

You cannot change your e-mail address. If you entered a wrong e-mail address you have to delete your existing registration and enter a new one.

I click on OK and nothing happens

In some cases de entered links for the pictures and the site can give a problem: after clicking on the button OK nothing happens for a number of minutes and the message appears that publication is not yet possible. In such a case just remove the entered links for the pictures and the site for the time being.

How can you work without making a charge?

By not charging any fee we expect to become the site with the largest number of houses. Furthermore our design will result in top positions with the major search engines. Together with the sites in France, The Netherlands and Germany this will result in a very large number of page views and consequently probably enough income from advertising. Because we do not stock the pictures on our servers we do not need sophisticated and expensive hardware or an expensive system administrator to run the system.

Conditions

Gîte owners

Every owner in France who is renting out a gîte on a temporary basis is entitled to register his gîte on this site. The same applies if he owns a small number of gîtes. However, every new entry is reviewed by us and if we think the registration is not appropriate, we will refuse the registration. This will happen for instance in the case the gîte is a caravan, a mobile home, a bungalow park or a hotel.

Periodic update

We want to have a database with updated information. Because of that we ask you to review at least once a year your data by calling your page, review the data and clicking on the button labelled 'OK'. If you forget this small duty the status of your registration will automatically be switched to 'inactive'. That means that your house will not show up any more on this site. However you can re-activate your registration at any moment by accessing the page with your data and clicking on the button labelled 'OK'.
If you make use of the availability function you have to update your data on a regular basis. If not, we will close down that function for your house.

Linking back

Our goal is simple: Number 0ne with all major search engines for the important keywords. Key factor is the number of sites which are linking to our site. Because of that we ask you to link back if you want to have the description of your house accompanied by your website. If not, you can skip the entry of your website and use the other contact information (fax/telephone/e-mail address).
