Introduction

This site is all about pictures, a large collection of pictures of the department of the Aude in France. The objective is simple - to let you take a virtual walk in the 438 villages and towns of the Aude through the pictures of the community; the town hall, the church, the cemetery, the streets, the surrounding area, the monuments, the restaurants, the hotels and so forth. All the pictures are categorized so you can choose the pictures you want.

Justification

Twelve years ago I came to the Aude. It was a pleasant surprise; a warm welcome, authentic communities, a rich inheritance and beautiful countryside. I've become very fond of this department - so fond, that I would like to share its magnificence on the Internet.

The project “Aude in 1001 pictures” lets visitors take a virtual walk in each of the 438 communities of the Aude and see their richness. As a matter of fact I want to visit them all, take 1001 pictures and publish a selection on the Internet so everybody can surf from community to community looking at the pictures of the restaurants, the hotels, the cemeteries, the streets, the schools, the events and so forth.

The uses are numerous. Imagine:
An English person who wants to prepare for a holiday in the Aude can start by visiting the communities through their pictures.
A Belgian who wants to rent a holiday home in Bram can consult the pictures of the surrounding communities.
An Englishman in New York who wants to buy a house in the Aude can start on the Internet by examining the 1001 pictures on this site.
A local of the Aude, living in Switzerland can show his neighbours the pictures of the village where he was born.

The first picture was added in October 2008 and I hope to add the last picture at the end of 2009.
